I am not a huge sushi fan, but this place serves incredibly delicious sushi. First, the setting is very nice. It is sparkling clean, one of the cleanest restaurants I've been in. In addition, the decor is very well done, and it is spacious a nice place to be in. Second, the sushi is incredible. I agree with some of the other reviews, this is the best place for sushi in Grand Rapids. We had the caterpillar roll, and, although the name did not sound appetizing, it was very good. We also tried the playboy roll, and that too was excellent. Third, and finally, the service was great.

Expensive, but worth it. My waitress even spoke Japanese! A bit pricy but well worth it. WiFi worked well We had two specialty roles and both were awesome The walnut role was a definite 'must try'

Really 3.5 stars. Only cause I'm a pretty tough grader. Service was a bit slow but friendly. Beautiful decor..nice and modern; plenty of room. Sushi was good--not great but very good. Tempura was quite good. Pork katsu was good-but serving was a bit on the small side. It's a good option for sushi in a nice environment. Much nicer room than the stripmall joints.

I have a friend who has been raving about this place. I love sushi and I was in the area so I decided to give it a whirl. Perhaps I should have been a bit worried because on a Friday night at peak time, it was pretty quiet. The décor is very modern and sophisticated, as others have mentioned. That's where the good part ends. I took a seat at the bar and the hostess gave me a menu. Not long after a waitress came around and asked for my drink order. Well I was never given a drink menu so I ordered water and asked for a drink menu. She came back in a decent amount of time and delivered the items. However, after that, I waited and waited and waited some more. She finally returned to take my order. Their wine list is decent and I chose the Riesling which was good. A standard pour, it was chilled as it should be. I ordered the sushi set which included 8 pieces of nigiri and a California roll. I think the price is fine for the amount of food, the set was $19. I was served a salad with ginger dressing. Typically the salad is to cleanse your palate and this was hardly that. The dressing had so much sugar it was like candy. It definitely put me off. Then my sushi arrived. At first glance, I was so excited! It looked really good. I got a mix of salmon, yellowtail, tuna, eel, and such. I started eating and soon the problems emerged. Problem 1- the fish is not fresh. The only raw fish that tasted decent was the salmon, the rest all tasted fishy and older than it should have been. Problem 2- the fish had been cut really poorly. Problem 3- there was no wasabi on the nigiri. That's part of the art of making sushi is perfecting the amount of wasabi that goes under the fish. In this case, they didn't put any. I put some in my soy sauce but it didn't taste fresh, there was no kick to it. Problem 4- the cali roll was a freaking mess. How can you mess that up? The pieces were all different sizes, the masago was just dumped on top of the roll like they threw a spoonful on it, the end pieces had dangles of crab, the rice peeled away from the nori. It wasn't the worst sushi I ever ate but it was far from good.

I love Ju! I visited Ju recently with my mom, she had been there before but it was my first time. I live in Chicago, I've had my fair share of sushi but Ju stands out. When we arrived we were seated in the lounge area. The decor is very modern and posh, it's really gorgeous. Our server, Alex, was prompt, helpful, and knowledgeable. Alex suggested an appetizer, the crab rangoon, omg so good. My mom picked a couple rolls for us, the playboy and the sunshine. The playboy was fun (its cooked table side) but the sunshine is beyond anything I could have imagined. I would go back just for that roll, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. We had some desserts that were also incredible, but I have a feeling they don't serve anything that's not 100% delicious. I've read some reviews saying Ju isn't worth the price, I completely disagree. Everything was so fresh, the nigiri was perfect, the rolls were impeccable, presentation was great, Ju is a fabulous eating experience.

I sat in my office and lamented to myself about how there were no good sushi places anywhere near my new Coast Guard base in Grand Haven, Michigan. My Chief walked in to my office and my life changed as he threw a chopstick wrapper on my desk. "Go there. Get the Playboy Roll. If you don't like that, then you DON'T LIKE FOOD!" said the Chief. Turns out he was right. This is the best sushi place I've ever been to in the United States. I may not be an expert or connoisseur but I've eaten sushi at great restaurants in Miami, NYC, California, etc and this is by far my favorite place. Get the Playboy Roll. If you're with another person get two, so you don't have to share. My wife looks at my Playboy Roll with her covetous eyes. She has her own but she knows it will soon be gone. Maybe she will go to the bathroom and I can steal some of hers! I'll replace it with a clump of rice and drown it in soy sauce. She will never know my secret.

I simply love the atmosphere here!! Always clean & the staff is super friendly. One of my must visit establishments when I'm visiting the area. California roll: Good but average; step outside your comfort zone if this is your usual. Shrimp tempura roll: Fantastic. One of the best. Sweet potato roll: Also delicious and unique. Dumpling appetizer: The sweet sauce that comes with these is super yummy! Looks like it may be infused with rose petals. Taco appetizer: OMG!!! Do NOT pass this one up. 3 tacos (shrimp, steak, chicken) topped with yummy Asian slaw, served ON TOP OF MASHED POTATOES! My absolute favorite...could eat 3 orders easily (no judging).

Wow is the first thing that comes to mind! It's Monday night in Grand Rapids, MI, I'm from out of town and I would have bet $1M against a donut no way you could get this quality sushi with such an great environment. Thank you YELP! The sushi was incredible, the temperature was perfect, the colors were awesome, the portions were more than generous, the place was clean and the staff was awesome!

Surprising sushi in a non-descript location... I'm from Chicago where sushi restaurants almost outnumber McDonald's so I'm pretty picky when it comes to sushi! And JU did not disappoint. My friend and I were staying in East Grand Rapids by the airport so we were yelping for something nearby that wasn't a chain restaurant. We chose JU after reading all the reviews. Thanks local Yelpers! We came around 11pm on a Saturday night and it wasn't busy. While most of the tables were empty, we were seated next to the only other couple in the room. While I don't normally prefer this, I didn't want to be fussy. And the couple made for interesting eavesdropping. Hehehe. We ordered the shrimp and bacon appetizer, the Maki 7 roll, and the Sunshine roll. The appetizer was just ok. It's shrimp wrapped with bacon and deep fried. I saw the bacon, but couldn't taste it. But it was well cooked and not greasy or heavy for being deep fried. The Maki 7 roll was tasty. It was rather large and hard to eat in one bite. The highlight of the meal was the Sunshine Roll. I've never had any other sushi like it! It's spicy salmon topped with salmon slices and lemon and topped with a citrus sauce. Just so light and refreshing. A few bites were too sour from the lemon slices, but I just took off a little. So good that we might go back just to get that roll before we leave town.

Favorite sushi in Grand Rapids. Go here every time I am home visiting. Always have the best service and rolls, my favorite being the dragon roll. They always have local beer on tap. The atmosphere is nice, but I usually get it to go. Order at the bar and have a nice Brewery Vivant Farmhand on tap with some edamame while I wait. Highly recommended.

  • Anna K.

Just moved to GR and looking for my new sushi spot! This place was really nice inside so I was so excited to see how the food was! Had the edamame as an appetizer.. Pretty small portion comparing to other places for the same price. It was 1/2 off I noticed once my bill was presented so maybe they make the portion size smaller? (Side note: I wish the server would have told me appetizers were half off when I ordered because I probably would have tried a few other things as well.) A different server dropped off our app and we ate that for a good ten minutes before our server came to take our order (water completely empty- didn't offer a refill). Our food came. It was good but nothing to rave about. A fly seemed to follow our food to the table as well. It kept flying around our food as we were trying to eat. Ew. Anyways long story short the service was terrible. The food was alright. This will not be my new sushi spot.

I've been here a couple times for lunch and happy hours that turn into dinner and always had a nice time. The atmosphere is uptown/contemparay with a large bar as the focal point when you walk in. They have booths and a few seating arrangements for drinks and appetizers on one side of the bar and a separate space with tables for a more formal seating arrangement on the other. 'The Playboy' roll is my favorite but all the rolls I've had are good. They do allot of "trendy" type of rolls so I always find something new to try. For some reason it's always a little slow/quiet here, which surprises me because it seems like it should be busier for the times I stop by. In any case, you won't have an issue getting a seat.

  • Jeremy N.

I had the Arctic Char with rice, Salad, Mio sparkling sake, and spider roll. The food presentation is great and the food and sake taste fabulous. However, the portions are very small for the expensive price tag on their menu. This place is meant to be a "high class" sushi place and be prepared to leave this place hungry and have a big hole in your pocket. The service is poor and the server took a long time to attend to our table and did not even refill my water at all.

Best sushi in town! I've tried a lot of sushi places and Ju Sushi has by far the best atmosphere, the best food, and the best service! They have such a great selection of food for vegan and vegetarians as well as your carnivores. The staff is so thoughtful. This place is not a franchise and they care. Our server Candace was very amazing. Have us great recommendations. We waited for a pretty long time so the manager have us a 10$ gift card to come back. Now that's service!!! The modern atmosphere is great and definitely different than anything in town. The best part is, it's AFFORDABLE! must try!!

  • Jared C.

Very modern and different to any other sushi place in town. I've eaten a lot of sushi and their sushi is up there with some of the best rolls I've had. Polite staff. Quick takeout orders for pick up and to go.

Ju Sushi is my favorite restaurant to eat at in Grand Rapids! I always get the spicy tuna pizza for an appetizer. It's sooo good! Another suggestion that you should try is The Tokoyo Tower! It's my husbands absolute favorite item on the menu and we get it every time we bring friends so they can try it :) Great food, great service & great environment! Highly recommend!!!!

Sushi was ok, service was very slow - spilled a plate full of soy sauce all over the table and never cleaned it up. Prices were quite high. We won't be going back.

My husband and I came here for lunch based on the reviews. We got pretty basic rolls... 2 Cali, 1 spicy salmon, 1 spicy tuna, 1 salmon. The food was SALTY to the point of burning your mouth. I get that it's a salty meal but not to this extent. The service was ok. Then it took about 5 min after we ate to get the bill. When we got it, we had some questions regarding the pricing for the lunch special vs regular. It took 10 min for us to get a corrected bill and made to seem like it was our problem in the way we ordered. We got rolls on the special menu but apparently it was how we ordered them that made the pricing incorrect. It didn't make sense to us. She tried to tell us that we had to get specified rolls for the special to apply. I told her we had chosen those on the list. So she begrudgingly took it back to correct it. Another 5-10 min to get our bill picked up, the card run and back to us. Took longer to pay than eat. Will not be going back!!!!

This restaurant is tucked away in what use to be a higher end shopping center and replaces a different restaurant. Having been around for a few years now, I hope it is here to stay. I usually come here for lunch. They feature a select two or three items for a fixed price. This is a great value considering the quality of food and portion size. I had the Kari tacos which includes wonton shells filled with beef, chicken and shrimp. Each taco is presented on a small serving of room temperature mashed potatoes. My second selection was the house udon. This included a nice sized tempura shrimp. Only thing that could be better is replacing the krab stick with either a piece of fish or real crab. My third selection was the bulgogi wrap. Served in pita bread, this fusion like sandwich hits the spot. Beef has a lot of flavor and the veggies tie it all together. I love gyros/doners so this was a great fusion version. It all comes out at once and I ate in the above order so it was like having an appetizer, soup course and a main. Mini dinner for $12 bucks. Of course you can't not try their sushi. One of their specialty rolls is the Playboy roll. It comes to the table in foil and the sever lights it on fire. Having eaten a lot of sushi around town, this place is near the top for quality of ingredients. Insider tip: Playboy rolls are half price after 6pm on Tuesdays.

We went for valentines day and made Our reservation a week in advance at 4 PM. We figured that be plenty early to ensure a good table. When we arrived for the reservation we were greeted by a frazzled hostess. She then brought us to a reserved table which was a tiny one in the corner literally 2 feet next to the couple sitting at their own tiny table. I asked if we could sit at one of the other 25 open tables throughout the resturant. We were told that was not possible due to "how they make reservations" and having "full books". We did have a wonderful meal with a great server and the food was amazing. I will say that even at the end of the meal the restaurant had at least 20 open tables still. I'm just annoyed that it was such a problem to seat us at a different table where we weren't literally dining with strangers... It made our valentines dinner a lot less romantic.

I have eaten here a couple of times and had good food and service each time. I would be cautious about bring children to this restaurant. During my first visit earlier on a Saturday afternoon when they were slow there was some music playing with very questionable language. You never really expect to hear the f-bomb multiple times while in a restaurant. I really enjoy their dumplings, the sauce for dipping is excellent. Each roll that I have had there has been very good. Although some of the rolls can get a little big and are difficult to fit in your mouth in one bite. Sashimi and Nigri were both fresh and tasty. The other nice thing about this restaurant is that it is a little more classy of a sushi restaurant. If you wanted to have a nice dinner and dress up a little bit you would not feel out of place, like you might in other area sushi restaurants.

This place is beautiful. The atmosphere and design of the interior was super classy and was fun to just relax in on the lounge side. I'm not a fish person in general so I'm definitely not a sushi guy, but I really enjoyed our meal. We tried a Bento Box with Unagi (Eel) and a Playboy Roll. I find I need sushi rather than sashimi. I will definitely make this a regular spot. The happy hour was extremely impressive as well.

Definitely the best sushi in Grand Rapids, hands down. Okay, before I get to the food, the atmosphere: pretty nice place, has a neat "Japanese lounge" where it is a bit more casual, but also has regular dining tables as well. Servers very friendly. Okay, the food was fantastic. I had multiple types of nigiri, salmon, fatty salmon, snapper, and egg. Big portion, large piece of fish per piece. However, one piece per order, so it gets costly. Cheaper to buy nigiri appetizer. Also got the Sweet Potato Tempura roll which was delicious. They have a neat option where you can get any roll tempura fried for just a dollar extra I believe. Good place for a date, or just out with friends.

Such a good lunch deal for sushi! I also loved the ambience of the place. Service was a little slow for a timed lunch break, so if ever I'm in a hurry, I would get it to go instead. I'll be coming back for sure.

Best sushi in west Michigan! Very chic atmosphere. I always experience great service as well.

Very cool place with attentive staff and great sushi. Usually I prefer nigiri over specialty rolls with tempura and cream cheese and all that stuff but our group had a variety of rolls and all were fantastic. Try the Playboy Roll. Nice live music and relaxing atmosphere. BTW, the nigiri I did have was very good.

I love Ju Sushi. The interior is sophisticated and contemporary but still welcoming and unpretentious. Now to the important part, the food. Their sashimi/fish is always fresh the way it should be. The portions are more than fair in ratio to the prices. I highly recommend their playboy, shrimp tempura, and crunch munch 2 rolls. The nonsushi entrees and the sauces are great as well. I absolutely love their bento boxes and udon noodles. I think they are my favorites. Almost forget to mention their appetizers, I recommend their Bacon Shrimp..yum! or the Agedashi Tofu for the vegetarians which is actually my favorite. It's a great place to dine for dates and to celebrate special occasions. They also have an extensive list of sake. The staff is very knowledgeable, personable and attentive without being intrusive.

Went there tonight for the first time and was thoroughly impressed with the decor, service, and of course the food. When we first arrived they asked if we wanted to sit in the dining room or lounge. We decided on the lounge, as it looked like a neat area. We ordered drinks and two appetizers to start, the edamame and the asparagus beef. The asparagus beef was amazing and as weird as in sounds the edamame was better than most places I have been. There were three of us and we ordered four rolls, the spicy tuna, the dynamite, the crunch munch, and the playboy(which comes out wrapped in tin foil on fire). All of the rolls were amazing, my two favorites were the crunch munch and the playboy! Their nigiri was very good as well. The most fresh I have had in Grand Rapids to date. Our server was good and very pleasant, he was new, but did not show it. My entire group enjoyed it and we all hope to return very soon. I highly recommend!!!

I just ate here the other day with a few friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It was kind of like a posh Japanese spa: fireplaces, water fountain, dim lighting, and trendy seating. The interior is very relaxing and for an hour I forgot that I was in Grand Rapids. I ordered the Volcano roll ($11) and had eel added to it ($3)...I'm very partial to the baked sushi rolls for some reason. It was absolutely delicious. My only complaint is that the spicy crab salad that was in the roll was a little bit overpowering so maybe a little less of that would help the other flavors stand out more. My friends had the special california roll and a vegetarian roll and both loved them. I will definitely be back again!

  • Kasey B.

Let's start with the good. I had sashimi. It was delicious and fresh. Eighteen big pieces of fresh sashimi for $27 qualifies as an excellent meal. They get 3 stars because of the following: 1. We came on a Sunday at 6PM (dinner time, right?) with a party of 8 people and, SURPRISE, we all ordered sushi. Let's not talk about how long it took for someone to even come around and take our order, because once someone takes your order you're thrilled, right? That means food is coming sometime soon. Anyway, twenty minutes after our order is taken a lady (manager?) comes to our table, apologizes for the delay, and says there will be an additional delay because they only have one person making sushi for the entire restaurant. To fix this they have someone else who is coming in from home to make our sushi. In other words she said: "we are a sushi restaurant that doesn't expect you to order sushi when you come here. Would anyone like to change their order to chicken teriyaki?" It took over an hour for us to get food from the time we placed our order. 2. In addition to the above everything else was moving in slow motion. Be prepared for a leisurely meal. 3. It was freezing. Some people in our party were wearing dresses, some were wearing pants and polo shirts, but everyone was cold.

We've been here many times and it is consistently good! The rainbow roll, playboy roll and sunshine rolls are my favorite.

  • Stephen R.

Ok Decor is a 4 especially the lounge. Dining area is 3.5 Food for value, meaning is it worth the price? No..that's a 2. Small things bother me but if you like sushi these matter. The fish overall was average it was poorly cut but presentation was good. The wasabi was old, it was dark dark green and not fresh. It was old and stale and should be more " mint" looking versus looking dirty. That's a 0 out of 5. The ginger was old too, yes these are garnishes but freshness is key. We ordered shrimp dumplings which came out cold. These were clearly frozen and not steamed properly and they were pricey for frozen shrimp dumplings. These came out of a package. Another 0 out of 5. The apps were not a good value. The nigiri sushi prices per piece are as high as u have seen in any major metro city. 3 bucks for one small piece of salmon is steep. Overall service was solid but the other elements turned me off and for a Saturday night meal it was surely a Saturday night price if I was in NYC. Can't say I would go back but this place has great potential and upside. My experience this day was very subpar for the above average price I paid.

I ate here while on a business trip in Michigan because I Yelped surrounding sushi restaurants and this one seemed highly favored by locals. I went during the afternoon- I arrived 15 minutes after the lunch special ended, so the place was empty which was not a problem for me. I sat in the lounge section which was very calming and the setting was great to relax. I wanted to try the playboy rolls; however I was too early for the half off special. The playboy is $16 but you can order it half off Tuesday's beginning at 6p. I ended up ordering my favorite Miso Soup along with Spicy Tuna Rolls and Spicy Salmon Rolls. I eat sushi a lot but when I received my plate the raw meat was grounded within the rolls which surprised me. It looked weird to me but I did eat it. The taste was not bad but the consistency of the raw fish was not appealing. I've definitely had much better sushi in the city of Chicago, but this place satisfied me since I was just visiting the area. I give the restaurant appearance 5 stars, not the food.

Very good sushi being prepared at this joint near Grand Rapids, MI. My dad has been enjoying this place for a long time and my whole family recently went here. I have to say all the roles we shared were very enjoyable. I have to make a positive recommendation to go try this place.

I went in for a late lunch and was not disappointed. They offer a 2 for $9 or 3 for $12 as a lunch special where you may choose from a large list of menu items. I went with the 3 for $12 and got their Udon, a spicy tuna roll, and steamed dumplings. Considering how much food there was for a relatively low price, I thought it was an excellent experience! The tuna roll was good, but average (to be fair...a tuna roll is a tuna roll!). The Udon and dumplings were both excellent. The service was courteous and attentive for a slow afternoon. I would return...

This place is very nice inside the decor is modern and very comfortable. My wife and I went for our anniversary and expected the service to match the price of our meal. The service was on the poor side and it felt more like TGI Fridays than it did a $150 meal. The hostess was aloof, not dressed very well and not overly pleasant when she greeted or sat us. On the positive side we did get right in and we were sat immediately. As we sat and looked over the menu a few minutes later the hostess came back with a couple waters and told us the waitress would be over shortly. SEVERAL (longer than I expect to be greeted by our waitress) minutes later the waitress comes to our table asks if we are ready to order or if we need a few minutes. I say we need a few minutes and she starts to walk away. I ask her if we can order some drinks and she says oh yea sure. She doesn't offer up any suggestions or let us know what they have. They dont have Asahi and when I asked for Kirin she looked puzzled and said Ichibad? I replied yes kirin ichiban. She came back with the drinks fairly quickly and to my surprise Kirin was on tap. How she didn't know what I was ordering is beyond me. We ordered ad app, some Nigiri and a couple rolls. She read them back but they were out of Yellow Tail and Uni. I can understand the Uni but being out of Yellow Tail is a Sushi Sin. The food came out a lot quicker than I expected for the amount of people that were there. Our finished app dishes were not bused and our Sushi was placed around them. The overall presentation was decent nothing special but not bad. However the waitress while pointing out which roll was which used her pointer finger that was not well kept and physically touched the plate right next to our food. After we were finished again no busing of the table even though she came by twice to ask if we needed anything and to take our desert order. The sushi was over priced and small portions. The Nigiri is on the menu and priced per piece. $3 for one piece of Tuna is crazy expensive. I have never paid that much for a single piece of Tuna and I have never been offered a single piece of Nigiri they always come in pairs. The rolls were small and put together sloppily. There was not a lot of flavor difference between each roll. I have better for cheaper. We ordered Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream for desert. You get one Mochi on a bunhc of whip cream garnished with chocolate and caramel sauce for $4. Literally a $.50 desert for $4. I'm not sure who ever makes this dish has tasted green tea and chocolate/ caramel but it was not very pleasant. So overall for the quality of the food and service were poor. I expect the service to match the decor and the $75 per person price tag. We won't be returning. Do yourself a favor and go to Suhsi Kuni

Stopped in around 9 p.m. while in town for a work conference. I sat at the bar and was helped by the bartender. Service was great, the gal was very sweet. I had the house salad (nothing to write home about, but that's what I was looking for, A+ ginger dressing), the egg rolls (piping hot and tasty, 2 thumb sized rolls), and a wave roll (5 big pieces, very good). Overall, very good, relatively inexpensive (all of the above was $22). Kind of a "hip" scene, which isn't mine but it was not busy so I was pretty comfortable enjoying my meal alone. Would definitely go back.

Definitely one of the best places in the Grand Rapids area for sushi. Every roll I have tried just tastes fresh and delicious. Can be a bit pricey if you order special rolls but if you don't want those they have PLENTY of basic rolls that are absolutely phenomenal!

Hip decor and the best sushi in Grand Rapids. Love sitting in the fireplace seating area or at the bar. Our favorite is the playboy roll....so good!

That Playboy Roll is RIDICULOUS!!! We have been dying to try this place but we don't get on that side of town as much as we would like. I am currently kicking myself in the butt for not having gone sooner! The food is amazing, service was excellent, and the decor is to die! My new favorite spot in GR :)

Flaming sushi rolls and then some! Ju sushi is a swanky joint that is sure to impress. Fun for date nights or ladies nights! I recommend those that don't even like sushi give Ju a try. They offer more than just sushi- zesty salads, seafood, hibachi...What's not to love?? If you are just dabbling into the wonderful world of sushi do try their baked rolls, yes they are fully cooked, or the chicken teriyaki roll. Ju has a little something to offer everyone.

Here again for lunch. First the positives: friendly, efficient staff. Clean, awesome atmosphere. The house salad....oh nom nom nom, Ju has the best ginger vinaigrette I've never had. But....I was just so turned off by my lunch. I had a combo deal that came with a small (very small) house salad, spicy tuna roll and crunch roll. My crunch roll was fine, I ate most of it....however, the spicy tuna was horrible. It's typically a go-to for me but this was literally warm. Warm tuna is not what I was looking for... not fresh. I was so bummed. The small things are great here but when paying quite a bit for sushi.....not worth it.

First time visitor to Ju Sushi and they did not disappoint me. Their sushi prepared by Henry, Sushi Chef, is prime fish. It is melt in your mouth fresh. Beautiful presentation of the dishes from a very friendly staff. The Lounge looked inviting for cocktails with comfortable seating. The whole restaurant offered white table cloths and table settings ready for that fantastic dinner. I prefer the sushi bar and sitting with a friendly staff makes everything all worthwhile. I would give a high recommendation to anyone who is a sushi lover.

Ju-Sushi has really nice-sized maki rolls, tasty food and moderate prices, though they get negative points for TAKING AWAY THE LUNCH BENTO BOXES! :( The bento boxes imo were the best price vs. the amount of food you got , as well as offered the largest variety of food (veggie AND shrimp tempura, dumplings, edamame, salad, a meat, rice & sushi) compared to other sushi places I've tried in the area. As a friend put it, the pick 2 or pick 3 list menu they've replaced bento boxes with feels too cafe-like or panera bread-y. Doesn't feel right in a sushi restaurant setting, and is definitely not as good a value as before. Ju's atmosphere in general is classy/chic, though the bathroom/elevator music needs to be swapped out. My favs: spicy tuna roll, spicy scallop roll, seaweed salad.

Gallon at the bar was fantastic. Food from the guys from the soft shell crab to the Wonton soup to the Nigiri was prepared perfectly. My cocktails were made he right way and were delicious. The non-traditional rolls are fun but not my style. The Traditional preparation is good and I'd come back!!

I was so pleased to see that the former Naya space did not go to waste, it truly is a spectacular interior. I usually don't like places that offer an over abundance of the 'designer' trendy rolls, but after trying some of the ones my friends had, I was hooked. The fish was very fresh, and their cocktails are quite original and delicious! Our server (maybe Justin?) was super great also!

I've been to JU a few times and feel the food has been quite consistant. Great selection of rolls and sides. Unfortunately, they no longer offer the bento box for lunch! However, with a new mix and match menu at lunch, you still have quite a few yummy options! The service, on the other hand, is not as consistant as the food. I've had some very attentive service at JU but I've also had not so great service, including a waiter that argued with a member of our lunch party about a menu item. In the end, I would recommend JU for the food but advise you to be on the lookout for impolite servers.

This place is is amazing inside. Super upscale dinning room with the best sushi I have had in Grand Rapids. Everything was fresh and the staff was knowledgeable and engaging. Had to laugh at ourselves as we tried to use the chopsticks. Our server came back with a trainer pair as she said and got us up to speed:) It was a nice experience and gave us something to talk about with friend. It is pricy but in this case you do get what you pay for. Great food and a great experience.

Staying at a nearby hotel and this was the best reviewed sushi restaurant in the vicinity. I can see why! Excellent atmosphere (sit in the lounge for a more chic experience) delicious cocktails (try the julinitini) and excellent sushi (the spider roll was my favorite). Only reason I didn't award 5 stars, the appetizer was so-so (tacos). Stick to the sushi!

Agree the place is amazing and so is the food. However, we had one bad order, apparently used the wrong sauce, we received a salad which we didn't order and wasabi was flavorless. Other than that, it was ok. Would likely go back...

This place is amazing looking on the inside! There is a separate lounge side for relaxing and having a few drinks. Ther porblem I have with this place is the food. For as nice as this place is you would expect better food. I even feel like I had better food at their other location Omi. This place does have potential but def not even close to some of the other sushi restaurants in the GR area.

How I love JU...let me count the ways. I didn't think that I liked sushi until I went to JU w/my beau for lunch on a Sunday afternoon a couple of months ago. Now I'm a weekly regular, occasionally sneaking in twice a week. I have yet to try something that was not absolutely amazing. The Playboy roll is my favorite (and it's 1/2-price on Tuesdays 6-10!) It's a bit pricey, but I'm so addicted that I might sell my child into black market slavery to afford my fix. Hahaha!

As soon as I walked in behind the hostess stand was the sushi bar with two sushi chefs preparing fresh sushi rolls. I enjoyed the decor it was very contemporary and neat. The open kitchen was directly behind the sushi lounge with chefs busy cooking fresh meals. The menu offers a large variety of sushi rolls, and other Asian dishes. I decided to go for the lunch special which had a 2 for $9 or 3 for $12 option. Some of the options included tempura chicken and a variety of sushi rolls. I went with the 3 for $12 and ordered the vegetable fried rice, chicken tempura, and California roll. When the food arrived it was smelled great without an overpowering smell that you usually get at Asian restaurants. The chicken tempura consisted about 6 ounces of fried chicken breast fried to perfection with a side of light soy sauce. The California roll was light yet delicious. The vegetable fried rice included bite sized pieces of fresh vegetables and eggs. The dishes were portioned just right and delicious. This restaurant maybe be a little more pricey but I think it was definitely worth it!
